Container Garden - The Idea That Might Solve Urban Issues

Growing a container garden is essentially the practice of growing plants only in containers rather than in the ground. You can grow food or edible plants in containers as well! The idea behind container gardening is that you can build and grow a small and portable garden quickly. People use different objects to create a container like tubs, boxes, tin, or even barrels.

In areas that have unsuitable climate or soil to support planting on the ground, people resort to container gardening. Houseplants or decorative flowers are frequently grown in this way as well for ornamental purposes. In urban spaces, they use it where there is a lack of ground space to grow plants, balconies, or windowsills. They commonly feature such container gardens. A wide variety of vegetable crops can also be grown in containers, herbs like basil and thyme can be conveniently grown at home in such containers as well.

Building Container Gardens

When trying to build container gardens, one must keep in mind that it is a lot easier to grow plants in big containers than small ones. Larger containers also allow the plant to remain moist for more extended periods as they will be surrounded by more soil. Colorless bottles or lighter colored ones will keep your soil cooler as well and allow your plants the moisture it needs to survive. For watering and irrigation purposes, you will also have to make holes in your container to allow appropriate drainage.

Any space with adequate sunlight could be used to make such gardens. Without proper systems for waste, the soil your flowers, for instance, are planted in, will not survive. Fertilizing is, however, seldom needed when it comes to container gardens. In contrast to growing plants and crops on fields on even on a small plot of land, the caretaking process of container plants differs mostly.

Keeping aside the labor of having to do the proper maintenance of such plants, the benefits from having container gardens over actual gardens are endless.  You will not even have to purchase any heavy machinery or tools and equipment to maintain your yard. The possibility of weeds growing on your soil is also minimum to completely absent, thereby releasing you of any fears of invasive crops taking over your garden. It reduces the risk of insects eating away at your plants. It is because we enclose them in the containers.
